Around The World In 80 Beers Episode 77: Oranjeboom Premium Lager

Another Eurolager from Holland.

Oranjeboom Lager

Pours a light amber with a medium head that fades. A bit fizzy in the glass.

First sip: Mild malt with a slightly stronger hops bitterness. A faint citrus appears in the after-taste. Fizzy on the tongue

This is another Eurolager. It's quite drinkable and an improvement on the Amstel, and yet it's still only as good as a macro lager from Tooheys or Carlton United. It has the same taste as Tooheys New*, so there is no advantage buying an this just because it's imported. I can get exactly the same beer at half the price. I find it remarkable that Belgium and Holland are next to each other, and yet one produces interesting beer and the other doesn't. Of course, I can only drink what is being imported. I'm sure Holland produces yummy beers. I just haven't found one.

Same again, sir? No. Do you have anything... yummy?

*Confirmed by my brother who is not a dedicated beer drinker.
