It was funny, your money wasn't metric, but measurement was.
American money has usually been metric, our measurement still isn't!

Oooh no! We didn't go to metric units until the mid-70s.

I had thought... I didn't know that!

It was important for us to be part of the Empire, but that began to fade after WW2. We were very Imperial until 1966 when the change to being Australian really took off.

The characters in the ad use a weird British Australian accent which was common in broadcast media until the early 70s.

It's always fascinating to see how national identities change!

I've been looking for that video for years, but I had no idea what it was called.

Furthermore this is the first time I've seen it in colour! :o

I didn't know it was in colour to start with! Then I saw it on youtube among all the B&W versions.

This video is so pristine it must have been converted to digital directly from the national archives or something. There's no flickering, image shifting or blurring.

I love the *round* 50c piece that was so easily confused with the 20c! Before my grandmother died she gave me one to keep. It's in my apartment.... somewhere.

If you ever stumble across any of the 2 minute ABC cartoons from 1982 featuring Matilda the Kangaroo please alert me. I approached the ABC... no help.
