Around The World In 80 Beers episode 154: Sheaf Stout
One for makovette.

Sheaf Stout

Pours a deep chocolate brown with a medium brown head. Looks black and opaque in the glass.

First Sip: Sweet, dark malts, with chocolate, coffee and toffee flavours in the background. Hops is mild but persistent, so it lingers for a long while after the swallow leaving a slightly astringent after-taste. Mouth-feel is thick, with a mild carbonation tingle on the tongue.

The brew is one of the best dark brews in Australia. It's as good as Cooper's Stout, but it's not as bitter and so it is even easier to drink. Sheaf leaves a nice warm feeling in the belly, and the beer burp is nice. This is an exceedingly yummy beer which does not promote drinking in moderation.

Best Beer from Oz I have ever had and one of the best beers in the world.

Sadly it is Damn hard to find here now; I used to get it by the case when I lived in Lost Wagers, errr, Las Vegas of all places.

Only in the past couple of years have the California breweries caught up (and for the hop heads at least) surpassed Sheaf Stout.

"YES! oh so very yes" indeed! :-)

It used to be brewed by Tooths in Sydney, but Cartlon bought them and Sheaf all but disappeared. It's good to see it on the shelves again, even if it *is* brewed in Melbourne. They didn't dick around with the recipe.

mmmm. Sheaf Stout. Truly a tasty beer.

We need to visit a pub and lift a glass (or two :) to Batty's health! \_/*\_/
