And so that was Christmas.
happy den
Still recovering from stuffing myself stupid yesterday, with many friends and family. The weather took a turn for the better; instead of the expected 42C, it rained which brought the temperature down to a comfy 25C.

I have much Yummy beers to drink - leftover Coopers Stout from yesterday.

The last few weeks have been spent house-hunting. I found a new 2-bed flat just around the corner from the current house. It's the same walking distance from East Richmond railway station, and I don't have to cross busy roads. It has a little room for the smoker, too, so I can get back into yummy unhealthy smoked meats.I sign the lease on the 6th and will move in on the 10th. And at $360/week it's cheap for Sydney and a 10 minute drive into the Bush.

The Dan Murphy's at Richmond has a wall of beers I have not tried. Which is nice.

Does this mean you're sorta permanently not living in Dubbo anymore for an extended period of time?

oh dear, i can imagine that's not fun.

Do you still have your house in Dubbo?

I do. I won't be selling that unless things go terribly bad.

And I still need a place to escape to. Sydney is not my favourite place, even living on the fringe at Richmond.

$360/week is excellent for Sydney, and especially so considering the proximity to public transport. How did you swing that?

The train timetables indicate a 90 minute journey to and from the CBD. It would suit me... until I look at the train fares and find that it costs $51/week, which is increasing this very Sunday. That's why I gave up looking for somewhere more affordable - once the travel costs are added to the rent there *IS* nowhere else affordable. Damn this rent crisis!

You can get cheaper flats on the other side of the river, but the railway stops at Richmond so you need a car. Also, the bridge over the Hawkesbury is a bottleneck, and that extra 10km adds 40 minutes to the commute during rush hour.
