Around The World In 80 Beers Episode 111: Grolsch Preimum Lager
Another episode where I try a beer I have tried before.

Grolsch Premium Lager
Ah, that familiar ceramic stopper!

The bottle opens with a pop! as the seal breaks. Pours a straw colour with a nice thick head and a lot of carbonation. The head fades away into a thick lacing.

First Sip: moderately malty with a mild hoppy bitterness that reduces the sweet malt a little. Very faint hops after-taste. Tingly carbonation feel on the tongue. There is almost but not quite a citrus flavour in there.

I used to drink this all the time. I stopped when I started to prefer darker beers, not because I grew up and stopped drinking yuppy brews. It's been a good 15 years since I last drank this, and it is still good. Not as great as I remember, but yummy beers were in limited supply Way Back Then. I will be adding this one to my "re-drink" list.

Grolsch Premium Lager
Grolsch Bierbrouwerij N.V. (in Dutch)
5.0% Alc/vol
450ml bottle with ceramic stopper

Grolsch Premium Lager

Same again, Sir? Hello old friend.

I kept a Grolsch bottle for years, moving it in boxes and plastic crates across the country from one city to another. I finally sad goodbye to it around 2006 after first obtaining it in New Orleans in 1979. The ceramic stopper was, of course, its truly seductive element--I think I had shared that beer with a girlfriend of my youth.

As a home brewer, I valued the bottles more than the contents. This one is on my "Do I haaaave toooo???" list, as are most non-German mass produced Eurolagers (Heineken, I am looking at You!" :)

The fact I have a glass of this at my desk as I type this certainly doesn't help Grolsh's case either...

I find it drinkable, but no alternative to a dark brew. It *is* a lager, so it's best really cold.

I find it best when served cold and poured into someone else's glass ;-P

On this brew, I think our opinions diverge, which ok :)
