A long day! Part 1 - Stonehenge

Most of my photos. There are more in my Flickr set

30 photos taken up close, and pieced together using Autostitch.
Stonehenge

We were lucky that day. It was fine, mild, and at 9.30am there was still an hour before the first coaches arrived. The monument was almost deserted - maybe 100 people were there.

The landscape around Stonehenge has many barrows. Here is one close to the henge, and six on the ridge behind.

Someday, somehow, I must see Stonehenge.

The userpic began as a photo taken by a friend of mine, anarchist_nomad - an American ex-pat now living in Oxford. He is an astrophysicist by profession, and as pagan as I am, and he visits Stonehenge every year at the Winter Solstice. That picture was taken in the pre-dawn light, with a light snow falling, almost two years ago. I found it so striking that I asked him if I could make a userpic out of it, and he was more than glad to agree.
