A walk through the Castle Museum, Colchester, and then a drive to a very old church.

Castle Museum. The castle was built in 1070(ish) on the foundations of a Roman temple to Mithras.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, the castle was a prison. Some of the cells have been restored.

Greensted Church, originally built between 850 and 1050AD, and extended in the mid 1500s. The bell tower was built in 1720.

The first of the floor mosaics (before zooming in to see how tiny the pieces are) makes me want to make a quilt out of it. I might have to save that photo in my idea cache. :)
