Around The World In 80 Beers Episode 80: Budejovicky Budvar Dark Lager

Back to the Czech Republic for another go at a Budvar. A dark larger this time.

Budvar Dark Lager

Pours a very deep, opaque mahogany. The head is tan and foamy, quite stable, and fades away very slowly.

First Sip: Sweet, dark-roasted malt up front, with caramel and coffee flavours. Slightly bitter, lingering after-taste. Slight carbonation tingle on the tongue.

Now this is more like it. This is what I expect of Czech beers: drinkable, malty, and yummy. It gets better as the glass warms slightly. Be careful buying this one; the label is almost identical to the Budvar Eurolager label, and you wouldn't want to make the mistake of accidentally buying that one.
