Around The World In 80 Beers Episode 67: Duvel

Another very strong brew from Belgium.

Pours a very cloudy yellow. The head is large and bubbly. Good grief! There are BITS floating in it! Bugger, I poured it wrong; I wasn't expecting yeast.

First sip: Mildly sweet up front, with strong malts yeast flavours mixed in. Mild alcohol taste with a strong warming feel in the belly. Mild hops and fruitiness lurking in the background. Mouth feel is creamy with nice carbonation. A nice, dry finish that makes you want to try more.

Ooh this is a yummy beer, but one to sip very slowly. The trouble is, it's very drinkable and the mildly dry finish makes me want to sip again, and again, and again, and OOPS Wobbly boots time!

One of the reviewers on the Beer Advocate site writes "Deceivingly seductive and powerful. It lures you with mesmerizing eye candy, then as the absolute refresher, then whacks the shite out of you with an 8.5% abv club. It's not called the "Devil" for nothing. "

I'll drink to that.

Brouwerij Duvel Moortgat NV
8.5% alc/vo
