Around The World In 80 Beers episode 26: Kozel Dark

Another beer from the Pivovar Velké Popovice in Czech Republic.

Kozel Dark
Happy goat with a stein of dark beer

This lager is very dark, and looks a deep red when held to the light. It has a creamy tan head that fades slowly.

First sip: mild malt with a faint black coffee bitterness and a slight taste of caramel, and maybe even wood. After a moment there is a slight hoppyness that appears, and then a long, lingering taste of very dark chocolate.. Tingly carbonation on the tongue.

Very nice, not too heavy. It's almost a bit thin for something that looks like a heavy dark, which is a reminder that this is a dark lager, not a stout or porter. It went down quite easily. Since I am a slow drinker the last bit in the glass warmed a little, which brought out a very beery flavour.

Another very yummy beer.

Same again, sir? Certainly! And leave the cheese plate.
