You have to remember these pensive-looking fellows would have been brightly painted in the Middle Ages. The Minster was not a drab limestone colour when it was finished.

I love the crazy overhanging buildings!

The statuary really was painted? I had no idea that was done - was that common for all the great cathedrals?

They were all painted. Each of the saints had their own colour scheme so the illiterate peasants would know who they were looking at. And the stonework in general was painted in patterns,

Golly that laneway is like stepping back in time, and yet I've never seen it used in any TV shows set in the Elizabethan era.

Wait a minute... OOOOHHHHH!! "Chocolate Heaven!!!!" XD
